
Cllr Malcolm Byrne from Gorey Municipal District has been elected Chairman of Wexford County Council.
Gorey Municipal District will have a strong voice on Wexford County Council following the election of Cllr Malcolm Byrne (Fianna Fáil) as the new Chairman at last Friday first meeting of the newly elected Council.
The first Municipal District meeting in over a century took place this afternoon in the Council Chamber at Civic Centre in Gorey.
Cllr John Hegarty (Fine Gael) was elected Chairman with Cllr Joe Sullivan (Fianna Fail) elected Vice-Chairman on his first day at a District meeting.
Taking their seats today were Cllrs. Malcolm Byrne, Pip Breen, (Fianna Fáil), Joe Sullivan, John Hegarty, Anthony Donohoe, (Fine Gael), Robbie Ireton, (Labour Party), Mary Farrell, (Independent), and Fionntán Ó Suilleabháin, (Sinn Féin).
The first Municipal meetings will be held in New Ross, tomorrow; Enniscorthy on Thursday and Wexford Borough District on Friday.
Wexford County Council has nominated all elected members of the Local Authority (34 in all) to attend a training seminar organised by the Association of Irish Local Government in Cork later this month.
