
Tim Flood
The Funeral Mass of legendary Wexford hurling star, Tim Flood, (87), will take place at St. Clement’s Church, Cloughbawn, on Saturday at 12 noon.
Tim came to prominence in 1949 when he assisted his club, Cloughbawn, in winning the county senior hurling championship final and afterwards had a long career on the magnificent Wexford team of the ‘fifties led by Nickey Rackard.
Tim won three All Ireland medals, 1955, 1956 and 1960, but he also played for Wexford in the 1951, 1954 and 1962 finals.
In addition, he won six Leinster titles and three National League medals.
Tim Flood played 38 championship games for Wexford and 78 other games – in total he made 116 appearances in the purple and gold jersey.
He was also a noted musician and appeared on national television numerous times as well as making appearances throughout the length and breadth of the country.
After retirement from the hurling fields, Tim travelled the world through his involvement in sheep dog trials and represented Ireland on many occasions on the popular BBC television series, ‘One Man and his Dog’.
His son, Sean Flood played on the last Wexford team to win the All Ireland hurling championship in 1996.
