CLONARD MAN Alan Tierney (40) passed away recently much to the shock and upset of his close-knit circle of friends.
The popular local man died suddenly on October 28th.
After completing his schooling, Mr Tierney began work as a coalman with Benson Fuels and continued in this post for over 20 years.
Through his work he was well known locally and held in high regard by all who knew him.
A dedicated Liverpool F.C. fan his friends and family recall that he was rarely spotted without his beloved football jersey.
Known affectionately as “Big Al”, he enjoyed socialising at his local pub the Mocking Monck where he regularly participated in darts competitions.
In the days following his passing, friends and acquaintances commented that he was a “true gentleman” and “popular with all who had known him”.
Following a funeral Mass at his parish church in Clonard, Mr Tierney was laid to rest at Barntown Church Cemetery alongside his parents the late William and Catherine Tierney, who predeceased him.
Mr Tierney is survived by his loving sister Catrina and her partner Colm as well as his nieces Ciara, Leanne and Niamh.
