The River Slaney is in full flood at Enniscorthy

Flooding continues  at Enniscorthy following heavy over night rain has caused the River Slaney to burst its banks.

Gardai, the Fire service, the OPW  and Slaney Search and Rescue are at the scene and large numbers of people have been gathering to watch the fast moving water.

Traffic on the N11 Dublin to Wexford road is getting through the town, but diversions are in place, and it is best to avoid the town altogether.

Train and bus services are running as normal.

Businesses have been affected and schools in the town have closed.

Concerns were expressed about horses trapped on an island north of the town and at the Bare Meadows on the Wexford side.

The horses at the Bare Meadows have been taken to safety unharmed.

Edermine Bridge, south of Enniscorthy, has now been closed to traffic.

Comments are closed.
