A TAXI driver from Waterford was subjected to a horrific ordeal in New Ross at the weekend.
Having travelled up to the town with a fare on Sunday morning the man stopped in the town to get his bearings at around 4.20 a.m.
However, three males jumped into the car and demanded to be driven to the top of the town.
A spokesperson for New Ross Gardai told the Echo: “They forced him to drive to the top of the High Hill. They got out and then told the man to drive down the High Hill and to not come back up.”
The area in question is closed to traffic and as the taxi driver tried to reverse back up the hill again his car was damaged.
The Garda spokesperson said the taxi driver wasn’t injured during his ordeal but the matter is being fully investigated.
Anyone who may have been in the area around that time or who may have seen three males in the vicinity are asked to contact New Ross Gardai Station on 051-421204. All information forwarded will be treated in strict confidence.
