Patrick wins Singles title at New Ross
SUNDAY’S SINGLES Stableford Competition at New Ross Golf Club was played in glorious weather conditions and was sponsored by Qualtile (Sean Browne). The results were 1st. Patrick Whelan (16) 40pts. 2nd. Eamonn Dungan (7) 39 pts. 3rd. Andrew Ryan (4) 38pts. Gross. Hugh Behan (4) 31pts. Cat1. Pat Culleton (9) 35pts. Cat 2 Brian Teague (13) 37pts. Cat 3. Ollie Cummins (17) 38pts.Cat . 4 Gerard Lyng (20) 36 pts.
The 14 Hole Tuesday Evening Fourballs continue and last week was kindly sponsored by The Rising Sun. The results were 1st. Peter Connon(15) and Tom Kent (16) 34pts.
2nd.Andrew Ronan (5) and Anthony Rochford (8) 34 pts, 3rd. Billy Furlong (16) and Martin McGrath (14) 33pts. Next Sunday’s competition is a Singles Stableford Competition sponsored by Sanrose. Times are still available on the time sheet in the bar. 39 seniors enjoyed the fine weather last Thursday. With the tees back and slick greens, scoring was low. First position went to Jim Ryan, Hugh Byrne, Colin Calsey and Larry Larkin with 84 points. Second were Richard Cuddihy, Michael Somers, John Ronan and Brian Dolan with 82 points. Third with 81 were Sean Ryan, Richard Cahill, Pat Riordan and John Harrington
Ladies Golf:
An 18 hole stableford competition sponsored by Steele and Co. took place on Sunday 19th and Wednesday 22nd August. The winner was Angela Treacy (13) with 35 points, 2nd was Anna Murphy (23) with 33 points (last 9), the Gross winner was Mary Dowling (2) with 29 points, 3rd was Ann Bailey (28) with 33 points and 4th was Catherine Morrissey (31) with 32 points (last 9). The Best Front 9 was won by Rita Brennan (26) with 21 points and the winner of the Best Back 9 was Kay Bolger (14) with 18 points.
Our final Major of the year takes place next week on Wednesday 29th August and Saturday 1st September. This is our Lady President Anne Healy’s 36 hole Stableford Competition. The draws for Wednesday, 29th August, are 9 to 9.15, 10.15 to 10.30, 2 to 2.15, 3.45 to 4 and at 4.45. The draws for Saturday 1st September are 9 to 9.30 and 10.15 to 10.30 in the morning and 1 to 1.30 and 2 to 2.15 in the afternoon.
The Lady President’s Mixed will be held on Thursday, 30th August. It will be a 3 person mixed team event and the draw for partners will take place from 3 p.m.
On Friday 31st August and Saturday 1st September the men will play for the Lady President Anne Healy’s Prize to the Men. There is a timesheet in the bar. On Saturday 1st September there will be a Buffet at 7.30 followed by the Presentation of Prizes at 9.30 p.m.
There will be no competition on Wednesday 5th September as the course is closed.
The popular 18 hole 4 Person Mixed Team Competition will be held on Saturday, 8th September. This competition is once again sponsored by Sarstedt Ltd. There will be a timesheet in the bar.
The 9 hole (re-entry) competition in aid of Breast Cancer Research continues.
