Bank holiday date for half marathon
THE PETTITT’S SuperValu Wexford Half Marathon & Relay will take place on the May Bank Holiday weekend next year.
Last year saw over 1,000 participants take to the streets.
Organisers believe that having it on the Bank Holiday weekend might be an extra stimulus to bring more people to County Wexford for the whole weekend.
“Last year we estimate the event brought about 100k to the town. 2010 should be much bigger based on last year’s success” said event organiser, Eoin Ryan.
The Half Marathon & Relay was a big spectacle in Wexford town in 2009. Six charities benefited from the event to the tune of €3,000 as well as the Wexford youth development squad receiving €1,500.
“It was noticeable the increased number of people running on the roads around Co. Wexford” says Ryan. The event sold out in 2009. Contact www.wexfordhalfmarathon.com for more details.
