THE SATURDAY outdoor market in Conduit Lane, New Ross, has been steadily growing over the last number of weeks.

In many ways the market is reigniting an age-old tradition in the downtown area with New Ross, at one time, being one of the busiest market towns in the south east.

The organisers of the current initiative are delighted with the response from the general public and they also acknowledged the role played by local people for supporting the scheme.

Spokesperson for the organising committee, Dawn Morley, talked to the New Ross Echo about the market last week.

“It’s doing great and each week we’re finding that more people are discovering us and the positive comments about how the lane is looking is very encouraging,” she said.

“It’s a lovely location and we’d love to fill it completely with traders,” she added. Ms. Morley went on to comment that the long term aim is to have the Conduit Lane Market alive with arts, crafts and collectibles.

“Our resident busker, Des, provides us with great music which adds to the atmosphere but we want more arts, crafts and collectibles,” said Ms. Morley.

The clean up of the lane and the new market are two initiatives organised by the Positive People for New Ross group as part of their Sunshine Saturday’s scheme.

Ms. Morley also highlighted the fact that visitors appreciate New Ross for its unique shops, quaint and amiable atmosphere and friendly people and said: “Why would you go anywhere else?”

This week’s market will include books, jewellery, baking, shrubs and dough-craft while anyone wanting to add some sparkle to their lives will be able to get a glitter tattoo.

Anyone who makes, bakes, grows or has an interesting idea for the market is asked to contact Dawn on 085-2091833 or Experience New Ross on 087-3630540.
