Calor has announced the shortlist of nominees for the inaugural Community Champion 2012 and Gorey native Michael Dwyer has been shortlisted as the Wexford nominee for the Community Champion initiative.
Michael is only 16 years old but he has done as much work for his community as an adult could boast. Through the GAA, he is PRO with Naomh Eanna and ensures the club looks in good nick in newspapers like The Echo, operates the scoreboard and submits club notes to the local papers every week.
He has madeGoreyCommunitySchoolstand out in a local, county and national sense through national competitions and liaising with the town council. He is secretary of North Wexford Historical Society, a Junior Leader at St Michaels Church Youth Group, secretary of Wexford Comhairle na nOg, chairman of the student council and manager of the school bank that placed third in the AIB Build a Bank challenge this year. He runs trips for up to 70 or 80 people from the community to GAA matches that feature local stars that are playing in county games. He submits regular articles to the local papers and thecountyGAAwebsite.
It is time to support your county man and to show true community spirit, so support Michael to help him be in with a chance to be crowned Community Champion 2012 and make Wexford the home of this year’s inaugural winner of the competition. The winner of the Calor Community Champion 2012 will receive €1,500 and a bursary of €7,500 to give to their nominated charity or local organisation. Calor is even throwing in €500 for the person or organisation that nominated them.
