THE HOOK Peninsula is preparing for an invasion, however, it’s unlikely to be as turbulent as when the Normans first arrived.
The annual Tri-the-Hook sporting event will take place at the picturesque area on Saturday, August 11. The triathlon event will see participants swim 750m off Baginbun Beach before taking to their bikes for a 20km cycle. The event will finish with a 5km run from Baginbun to Fethard-on-Sea.
Transition will take place in a field adjacent to the Norman fortifications in Baginbun.
“We expect 250 competitors in this year’s race with the top prize being a self-catering holiday in Grangecourt holiday homes,” commented a spokesperson for the event.
Those interested in registering can do so at www.trithehook.com
“Tri-the-Hook is an ideal event for experienced athletes and first timers alike,” said Race Director, Rory O’Connor.
“Baginbun Beach offers an idyllic setting for this year’s swim while the scenic run and the cycle course is mostly flat offering stunning views of the Peninsula,” he added.
Post-run massages and showers will be available. The organisers are working hard to make it as all-inclusive for family members as possible so participants can get satisfaction from the knowledge that they have a ‘support’ team who are having as much fun as they are.
“This will be a perfect opportunity to bring the family along, show them what you are made of, and let them have a fun day out,” said the committee spokesperson.
The organisers are currently looking for more marshals for the event and anyone interested in filling such a role is asked to contact the Hook Tourist Office or contact 051- 397502 or [email protected]
All marshals will be entered into a draw for a voucher for the Cliff House Hotel, Ardmore.
The organisers also thanked the event sponsors which include: Version1, Eset, MCX Training, www.holidayinwexford.com, FMD Konnections, Neville’s, Fethard-on-Sea, Dillon’s Londis, Zofo Creative, Scurri, Silvermine and Into Fitness.
