NEW ROSS library will be focussing attention on dog ownership next week with particular emphasis being placed on children’s responsibilities towards their pets.

A ‘Responsible Dog Ownership for Children’ workshop will take place at 11.30 a.m. on Tuesday, August 14. It’s expected the event will last for around 50 minutes.

Deirdre Ui Dhubhda, Education Officer with Dogs Trust will present the workshop. She will be accompanied by Education Dogs, ‘Sadhbh’ and ‘Cónán’. The event will be aimed at children aged between 3 and 12 years.

A spokesperson for the library commented: “The workshop will focus on a dog’s needs and safety around dogs to help children develop self-esteem, encourage interaction and confidence with dogs.”

The initiative will also focus on responsibility, communication and team work skills.

“The workshops are designed to be great fun and will use role play, discussions, and colouring,” said the spokesperson.

There will also be a ‘scoop-the-poop’ demonstration and the children will be asked to write a list of what dogs need. Ms. Ui Dhubhda will also talk about dogs re-homed by Dogs Trust. Places for the workshop are limited and early booking is essential to secure a place for our child. For more information contact 051-421877.
