THE ROS Tapestry is about to go on its first major out-of-town exhibition.
It will be put on display at this year’s Discover Ireland Dublin Horse Show in the RDS. The tapestry will be on public view at the event from August 15 and 19.
A spokesperson for the project highlighted to the New Ross Echo the willingness of the people within the community to get involved and help out with the mammoth task of transporting the huge panels from New Ross and in ensuring their safety while on view in Dublin.
“It is a sign of the times that there is a great willingness to get involved with local projects,” said the spokesperson.
“This week, from Wednesday to Sunday, a goodly number of people from around the south east will be boarding a bus in New Ross at 6 a.m. to go to the RDS to help with the exhibition of the Ros Tapestry panels at the Discover Ireland Horse Show,” she added.
“Thanks to this group of friends and acquaintances, stitchers and staff, the intricate work done by over 150 volunteers, which has been supervised by Alexis Bernstorff for the last 12 years, will be seen by hundreds if not thousands of people.”
According to the spokesperson the invitation to attend the Horse Show was regarded by the Tapestry Board as “a great honour” and an opportunity “not to be missed”.
However, the work involved in co-ordinating the transportation of the panels to Dublin has involved an “almost military like campaign”.
The Board has expressed its gratitude to everyone who has offered to help – in whatever way they can.
“People are still phoning the office offering to give up a few hours to steward the exhibition,” said the spokesperson.
Anyone interested in guarding the panels for a couple of hours in exchange for a lift to the show is asked to contact therostapestry@yahoo.ie or 051-445396.
