THE PARENTS of two-year-old cerebral palsy sufferer Alan Fitzgerald Moorehouse have extended their thanks to everyone who has donated or helped out at fundraising events so far. The total amount raised at this stage is over Û18,500, almost a third of the money required.
The Oylegate infant was born unable to walk but earlier this year her parents heard of an operation that would help their daughter to walk.
Spurred on by the dream to see their daughter in the local club colours, lining out on the GAA field, the family immediately undertook to organise fundraising events to pay for the surgery which costs in the region of Û60,000.
There was great excitement also recently as the proof came through that pop star Olly Murs had received and was very impressed with the specially designed Alana’s Dream Gaelic Football jersey. The family, who will travel to his concert in Dublin in February, will get the chance to meet Olly, which they are very excited about.
A grinning Olly posed for a photograph with the jersey which was then sent back to the Moorhouse family with the promise of a number of signed copies to come behind it. He will also sign a jersey which will be auctioned at a fundraising concert in the Ferrycarrig Hotel on October 5.
A recent night in Doyle’s Pub in the Duffry raised over Û1,800 when Mick Thorpe and Anne Ryan sold raffle tickets, had spot prizes and had a DJ.
On August 19, Toss’s Bar will hold a rerun of their talent show featuring the Rockabilly Donkeys and Max and Bull. A special bed push will take place on August 26 from Enniscorthy to Oylegate from 2 p.m. until 6 p.m.
The October 5 event will feature performances from The Voice’s Kiera Byrne and You’re A Star’s David O’Connor at the Ferrycarrig Hotel. The family will also be auctioning off signed Ireland soccer jerseys and tickets for the team’s game against Germany with an opportunity to meet the players after.
Majella, Alana’s mother told The Echo that they wanted to thank everyone who had helped out so far in any way and invited everyone to come along to future events to help the bubbly young girl to fulfil a dream.
