Wexford County Council has issued a weather warning for the county, especially along coastal areas.

A combination of high winds, high tides, heavy rainfall and abnormally low pressure today could cause dangerous conditions this evening and on Thursday across the county.

Although the county experienced sunny spells this afternoon, gale to strong gale force southeasterly to easterly winds are expected later today and into tomorrow. Accumulations of 30 to 50 mm of rain means there will be a high risk of coastal and river flooding and emergency services are advising people to stay away from the water for the time being until the weather becomes more settled.

The Irish Coastguard has also issued a warning urging the public to stay away from exposed areas, such as cliffs, piers and harbours, while there are reports of excess surface water in parts of Kilkenny and Wexford.
