THE DAUGHTER of the North Wexford man who was found dead in his front garden having died of asphyxiation has said the family is in limbo and will not know for months whether or not the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) is going to bring a case against a woman charged in relation to his death.
Mr. Plunkett was found in the grounds of his home at Ballyedmond, just off the main Wexford to Gorey road, following a 999 call to the Garda on Sunday afternoon, August 19th.
The Garda upgraded the investigation to a murder inquiry after a post mortem carried out by State Pathologist Dr Marie Cassidy showed Mr Plunkett had suffered a number of chest injuries before he died and that death was due to asphyxiation.
Gardaí arrested a 50-year-old woman at the scene. She was subsequently released into psychiatric care after being interviewed. It was widely reported that the chief suspect sat on the man’s body and was heard singing hymns as the police arrived.
Cathy Bottomley of Carricklawn, Wexford town, told The Echo: “The file is being sent to the DPP and it could take months. We are just in limbo at the moment because we don’t really know what’s going on. All we want is justice to be done.”
