Enniscorthy gained seven points in this year’s Tidy Towns results and were three points off of a National Award.
TIDY TOWNS Chairperson Billy Murphy has stated his delight at Enniscorthy’s improved scores in this year’sTidyTown’s competition, pointing out that just three more points would have won the town a Bronze Award.
“We’re delighted with the scores. We saw a seven point rise and that was so hard earned,” he said, commending all those who took part in litter-picking and general upkeep of the town over the last year.
He was delighted that the town made its gains in the area of litter: “It’s great to make gains in that category. Every year we lose marks on litter so it’s encouraging to see that we gained on it this year. That also resulted in the two point rise in Tidiness.”
Tidy Towns volunteers have been out on Saturdays, Sundays and during the week for the last few months picking up rubbish in a bid to raise the town’s scores in the national competition.
Commenting on the one point loss in landscaping, Mr. Murphy said that he wasn’t too surprised in the drops because the work which needed to be carried out in this area was hampered by the poor weather conditions over the summer.
“We couldn’t get out, Council people couldn’t get out. We could have lost points for not having grass cut but the weather was so bad that some of these things couldn’t be done.” He added that some other points were lost in areas that were outside of the committee’s control.
Mr. Murphy thanked the Town Council for all of their support and help, stating that the tidying of Enniscorthy was a joint effort between the two groups.
