ONE OF New Ross town’s most creative groups will showcase its charitable nature at this year’s National Ploughing Championships.

Crazy Quilters have donated a large quilt, called ‘Log Cabin’, towards the St. Mary’s Church renovation fund. The quilt will be put on display and raffled at the forthcoming National Ploughing Championships in Heathpark, Old Ross.

Ahead of the raffle the quilters handed over the piece to Rev. Richard Greens. Composed of a group of like-minded local women Crazy Quilters have been in existence for over 10 years. In that time they have endeavoured to keep the craft of hand-quilting alive and well in New Ross. Some of the members are also adept at creating intricate hand-crafted lace pieces.

The group has worked on behalf of charities before and donated pieces to worthwhile causes including New Ross Community Hospital.

The group is hoping that with thousands of people due to attend the Ploughing Championships a large amount of money will be raised for St. Mary’s Church which in addition to being the oldest historical building in New Ross is one of the oldest centres of religion in the south east.
