The future of Gorey Garda Station was discussed at a meeting of Gorey Town Council with councillors seeking information on policy plans and a newspaper report stating that a decision on a proposal to amalgamate the Gorey and Enniscorthy districts would be known in a matter of weeks.

It was also feared that Gorey would lose its superintendent and the superintendent at Enniscorthy would assume responsibility for the Gorey district.

Cllr. Robbie Ireton said the only loss they were going to have  was a superintendent, but Cllr. Malcolm Byrne felt that to lose a superintendent would mean that the most senior decisions would be made by a superintendent based at Enniscorthy.

“We need to fight to maintain the same level and structure,” said Cllr. Byrne, who added, “It is unacceptable.”
