MARTIN STOREY has an opportunity to complete his domestic collection of adult hurling championship medals when Oulart-The Ballagh’s third-string face the ‘seconds’ of neighbours Monageer-Boolavogue in Saturday’s county junior ‘A’ championship final.

The game is now confirmed for St. Patrick’s Park at 2p.m., following a couple of previous changes.

Storey has five senior championship medals and one intermediate to his credit. But he would dearly love to add a junior souvenir, and, while partnering his youngest, Martin Óg, on Oulart’s half-forward line, Wexford’s 1996 All-Ireland winning captain was instrumental when they beat Monageer in a re-arranged group clash on July 13th last, by 0-15 to 0-12.

Another couple of rather loose form-lines from the group stages are that while Oulart lost to Buffers Alley (1-7 to 1-5) Monageer beat the ‘Alley (2-12 to 1-7), and, whereas Monageer suffered against Tara Rocks (2-15 to 3-8), Oulart drew with the Rock before beating them in a rematch at the semi-final stage, by 2-14 to 1-13.

Good discipline is likely to be paramount to the outcome on Saturday, as both sides pack brilliant dead-ball shooters, in Ed Rowsome for Monageer, and young player Mick O’Dowd with Oulart.

The respective ‘keepers are sure to be kept busy when noting how the protagonists have combined for 25 goals en route. But really there is little to choose between these sides, and Oulart-The Ballagh get a hesitant vote to make it third time lucky having lost out in the equivalent final in both 2009 (Duffry Rovers) and 2011 (St. James’).
