A LOCAL man is celebrating this week after being selected to represent Ireland at the World Ploughing Championships in Canada in 2013.

John Whelan, from Ballycullane, is no stranger to success and has represented his country before. He will join Eamon Tracey, from Carlow, on the Irish team that will contest the World Ploughing Championships in Canada in 2013.

Mr. Whelan was actively involved in organising this year’s National Ploughing Championships in Old Ross. He was also instrumental in securing the venue for the event which attracted over 187,000 people to New Ross.

The NPA wished Mr. Whelan the best of luck when he travels to Canada next year.
