Top defender Mary Leacy is a shock omission from the shortlist for this year’s camogie All-Stars.
Wexford’s three-in-a-row All-Ireland senior champions top the list with 12 nominations – but the absence of multi-All-Star recipient Leacy is bizarre. On the flip-side, the inclusion of Fiona Rochford is a massive boost for a player who transferred seamlessly from helping the county to the All-Ireland intermediate crown 12 months ago to starring in their latest retention of the O’Duffy Cup.
Joining Rochford on the shortlist are goalie Mags D’Arcy, together with defenders Karen Atkinson, Catherine O’Loughlin, Claire O’Connor, Noeleen Lambert and Deirdre Codd.
The county has been overlooked at midfield, but Kate Kelly, who campaigned in the centre-of-the-park, features among the contenders in attack, along with Josie Dwyer, Michelle O’Leary, Katrina Parrock, the championship’s top-scorer, Ursula Jacob and, of course, Fiona Rochford.
