A CROWD of people braved inclement weather recently to attend the annual IRA Commemoration in Saltmills.

The event took place at the memorial statue located near St. Kearns. Among those in attendance was local man, Michael Whelan, who read the Proclamation. The organisers expressed gratitude to everyone who attended – especially in view of the fact the weather wasn’t ideal.

The commemorative ceremony is one of the longest established in the district and pays tribute to a number of local men who were killed following an explosion in October 1920.
