THE TRIAL into the murder of Wexford woman Nicola Furlong in Japan will now not go ahead until March at the earliest, her grieving family has been informed.

21-year-old Ms. Furlong, (who was studying in Japan), was found strangled in a luxury hotel in Tokyo on May 21st. 19-year-old American musician Richard Hinds has admitted being responsible for her death, but denies that he meant to kill her.

The Curracloe woman’s family were initially led to believe the trial may take place late this year, but were informed by email late last week that the case may not go ahead now until March, if not later.

Nicola’s father Andrew told The Echo: “A meeting of the prosecutors was held on Wednesday last week about setting the trial date. It won’t be going on now until March at the earliest. This is dragging on for us. I appealed for information because we didn’t know what was happening. I needed to get it off my chest so I emailed the consulate in Japan about it.”
