NEW ROSS Town Council is considering introducing Casual Trading bye-laws to coincide with the impending completion of the town’s redeveloped quay-front.

Town Clerk, Ger Mackey, suggested to councillors at a recent meeting that such measures should be considered in accordance with the Casual Trading Act 1995. He said such byelaws should be introduced for the facilitation and regulation of casual trading in the town.

“The quayside plan is nearing completion and it is therefore an appropriate time to consider this matter,” he said.

Traditionally, Tuesdays saw casual trade stalls being set up along the town’s quay-front – usually in the car park adjacent to where the JFK statue is now located near O’Hanrahan Bridge.

However, since work began on redeveloping the quay the traders were moved to the Barrack Lane area of the town close to the town’s public swimming pool.
