A NUMBER of parents have expressed concern arising from an incident in an Enniscorthy school, which involved, The Echo believes, an image of semi-nudity that was inadvertently sent by a member of staff to pupils.

First year students attending Meanschoil Gharman – the county’s only Irish secondary school – were surprised when they accessed homework assignments via Dropbox on their iPads, which are paid for by parents.

However, the teacher involved accidentally posted a semi-nude photograph of herself instead of the assignments, much to the embarrassment of the Brownswood school.

It is understood that the teacher made an apology to her class prior to the mid-term break.

This transgression is in breach of an iPad Acceptable Usage Policy in operation at the school.

In fact Meanschoil Gharman, which has over a hundred pupils, recommends that parents should inspect the iPad on a daily basis to ensure that it contains no inappropriate material.

When contacted by The Echo yesterday, Principal Norah Harpur confirmed that she had received phone calls about an unspecified incident from parents.

“We have policies in place and govern all appropriate internet contact with our staff and pupils,” explained Mrs. Harpur.

“Any incident that does occur will be investigated thoroughly. I’m not denying it is not true because I don’t know but I can’t comment on individual cases.”
