While there are very few contests on the cards at adult GAA County Convention next month, the three likely challenges on the cards should provide for plenty of interest.
There could be a particularly close-run battle for the role of Coaching Officer, as the incumbent, Andrew Egan (Davidstown-Courtnacuddy) is set to be challenged by Ferns St. Aidan’s Des O’Neill, who has been the Chairman of Coiste na nÓg-Loch Garman this year.
Undoubtedly the fight for the Central Council Representative spot will be even tighter, and rather intriguingly the holder of this position for the last two years, Paddy Wickham is facing competition from fellow Davidstown-Courtnacuddy club-man Tony Dempsey, while the similarly high-profile Denis Nolan (Taghmon-Camross) has also been nominated for the position.
The only other noteworthy contest is for the position of Treasurer, with the name of Oulart-The Ballagh’s Mary Doyle having been thrown in the hat to run against the board’s outgoing financial controller, Andrew Nolan (Sarsfields).
