John Sinnott (57) was remanded in custody last week

For the first time at Wexford Circuit Court, the social networking site, Facebook, was used as evidence in the decision to remand a local man in custody.

John Sinnott (57), Coolmurray, Davidstown, was last month given a two year sentence after he was convicted of harassing his former partner.

However, Sinnott was told by Judge Barry Hickson that if he stayed away from alcohol the sentence would be suspended for three years.

In a dramatic development last week, Wexford Circuit Court was told that Gardai had come into possession of Facebook images of Sinnott drinking alcohol at a social event in Davidstown ten days after the judge’s warning.

Sgt Tom Murphy had received three pictures which showed Sinnott with alcohol, facts which were not contested by the defendant.

It had been also recommended to Sinnott that he should attend AA meetings after the court case in October was told that he was discovered on his former partner’s property.

Sinnott was then remanded in custody until December 4.
