THE CRISIS of spiralling youth unemployment in the county will be the subject of a major conference to be held in Wexford next Tuesday, November 27th.
Organised by Wexford Local Development (WLD), the event will be held at the Talbot Hotel, with keynote addresses from former Governor of Mountjoy Prison, John Lonergan and Bríd O’Brien, head of policy and media with the Irish National Organisation for the Unemployed.
Wexford has the third highest youth unemployment rate in the country at 47 per cent. This equates to nearly 8,000 people. Among this group of people aged 15 to 24, those young people with low levels of qualification and early school leavers have unemployment rates closer to 70 per cent.
