WEXFORD FINE Gael TD Liam Twomey has said he expects the future of important cancer and heart care services at Waterford Regional Hospital (WRH) to be made secure by Health Minister James Reilly within a matter of months, but said links with St. Vincent’s Hospital in Dublin may be expanded for Wexford patients.

Deputy Twomey, along with Minister for Public Expenditure and Reform Brendan Howlin and fellow Wexford TDs John Browne and Paul Kehoe met with consultants on Saturday to discuss the furore over plans to break up the hospital network.

He said the politicians have been working with all the stakeholders from all the hospitals, includingSt. Vincent’s, as well as the Department of Health and the Royal College of Surgeons, on this issue.

“At this moment everyone is involved trying to get what’s best for Wexford. I expect the way the discussion is going that we will remain connected to the two hospitals (WRH and Vincent’s), but there will be a stronger link to the stronger of the two hospitals,” he said.
