THERE ARE contests on the cards for the two top positions on Coiste na nÓg-Loch Garman at the body’s annual general meeting on December 10th in the Ferrycarrig Hotel.

Both the outgoing Chairman, Des O’Neill (Ferns St. Aidan’s) and Vice-Chairperson, Marguerite Furlong (Davidstown-Courtnacuddy) are facing potential challenges for their posts. In fact, Furlong has been nominated to run against O’Neill for the Chair as is prominent Glynn-Barntown official Bobby Goff, andSt. Martin’s Kevin Waters, who is well known in schools circles.

O’Neill, who is nominated for the role of Coaching Officer at adult Convention, came in as head of the underage board last year when Furlong also stepped in as deputy, a position for which the name of Stephen O’Leary from Monageer-Boolavogue has been thrown in the hat this time round.

Otherwise, all other members of the underage executive are set to be returned, and therefore Marion Doyle (Taghmon-Camross) is set to embark upon her fifth and thus – as per the rules limiting terms of office – final year as Secretary. Meanwhile, Assistant-Secretary, Angela McCormack (Clonard) faces into her third year having previously acted as Registrar.

Hard-working Treasurer, Noel O’Keeffe (St. Anne’s) and efficient PRO, PJ Howlin (Duffry Rovers) are both set to enter their fourth years in their respective posts.
