A NUMBER of farmers staged a sit-in at the headquarter branch of Friends First bank in Loughlinstown in response to an incident in Bunclody last Friday week when a farmer and his son were injured.
Four farmers made their way to the Dublin headquarters of the bank, along with Independent TD Mattie McGrath on Tuesday last to meet with management of the bank and seek a letter of comfort for the family, saying that no further attempt at repossession would be made until after an investigation of the incident which is being carried out by Bunclody Gardai.
Sam Deacon (a neighbour of the injured man) travelled to the bank to take part in the sit-in. He said: “The family is traumatised and shocked after the whole ordeal. It’s off the wall what is going on at the moment. I can’t believe how any bank can do this to any family. Whether we owe money or not, no family deserves to go through what these people went through.”
Mr. Deacon and Farm Contractor Timmy O’Brien left the bank on Wednesday morning after being unsuccessful in their attempts to get the requested later. It was later confirmed that Deputy McGrath did receive such a letter.
