MEMBERS of Loch Garman Against Austerity took the opportunity to protest on Friday night when Ministers of State Paul Kehoe and Brian Hayes attended an exhibition opening in Enniscorthy Castle.
The group, which holds regular meetings and protests in Enniscorthy, gathered outside the castle for over two hours.
Group P.R.O. Annette Moran said: “We held the protest to let Ministers Hayes and Kehoe know that we were not happy with the cuts announced in the Budget.”
She added that there were a number of parents present whose kids had had special benefits cut in last week’s Budget, as well as a number of local people and Sinn Fein members.
Ms. Moran said: “I believe one parent went inside to ask the Ministers to come out and speak to us but nobody appeared.”
However, Minister of State and Government Chief Whip denied this saying nobody had approached either he or Minister Hayes. He added that he was disappointed by the scenes on the night when such a positive event was happening.
He added that earlier in the evening Minister Hayes’s car had been egged and that Gardai were called to oversee the protest on Friday night.
