WEXFORD LIONS Club met on Wednesday last and unanimously voted to provide emergency assistance to the residents of King Street affected by flooding on December 2nd.

€2,500 of the funds to be issued have been donated from Lions Club Ireland and the Disaster Relief Fund.

President of Wexford Lions Club Rosemary Hayes said: “We are liaising with a committee of King Street residents and hope to distribute funds by the end of the coming week.”

The ground floor of many homes on the street was covered in over a foot of water, after the houses were flooded, after gullies became blocked.

Carpets, furniture, kitchen presses and clothing were all destroyed in some homes.

Ms. Hayes said: “We have previously helped flood victims from Pakistan and the west of Ireland, so it would be remiss if we didn’t help people here in Wexford. The national body will be giving us money and we will be matching it. We hope to have it in place before Christmas.”
