TWO GOREY restaurants were taken over for filming of ‘Food Fight’ featuring celebrity chefs, Derry Clarke and Clodagh McKenna, the venture was a huge success and profits from the restaurants amounted to €7,350.32 which was kindly donated to Gorey Conference of St. Vincent de Paul.

The chefs took over two restaurants for two nights, opened their doors for business on Tuesday and Wednesday only, and customers were allowed pay the amount they felt the meal was worth.

“We had more customers that we could handle, everything went really well,” said a spokesperson for the programme makers, Another Avenue.

The President of Gorey St. Vincent de Paul, Jim Lee, was on hand to collect the cheque from the celebrity chefs last Thursday and he expressed his thanks to them for their generosity towards the needy people of Gorey.

The concept of the television reality show was to challenge the chefs to compete against each other, to transform their restaurants into the ultimate dining experience, and they had less than two days in which to do it!

The existing staffs of both establishments, Christina’s and The Kitchen, were on duty for the duration of the challenge and worked with the celebrity chefs and help turn their culinary visions into reality.

Reservation lines were operational and one chef, Derry Clarke, sought the assistance of The Gorey Echo to fill his restaurant.

The show, ‘Food Fight’ will be transmitted on RTE 1 television on Thursday, December 27th at 6.30 pm.

The programme makers have declined to release the name of the winning chef – it will be done when the programme is shown to the nation.
