NEW ROSS is one of the areas to be provided with Eircom’s expansion of its state-of-the-art fibre network.

The town is one of three additional locations identified for the roll out of the scheme with Adamstown and Drinagh, in Wexford, being the other two.

The company made the announcement on Wednesday and the expansion into the three areas in Co. Wexford will form part of the organisation’s plans to construct the country’s largest fibre network grid.

Once complete it’s expected this phase of the project will bring the network to an additional 300,000 homes and businesses across the country.

The work in New Ross is expected to be completed by December 2014. When it’s finished it will mean seven locations in the county will be included in the fibre roll out plan.

Wexford Town was in included in Eircom’s fibre pilot scheme and last month further locations in Wexford town – in addition to Enniscorthy and Gorey – were included in ‘Phase IV’ of the plan.

Commenting on the development to The Echo, Herb Hribar, CEO of the Eircom Group, said: “We remain fully committed to our investment strategy in high speed broadband and constructing Ireland’s largest fibre network is a key part of our business plan.”

It’s expected the new network will provide broadband speeds of up to 70mb to customers.

With regard to the inclusion of New Ross in the scheme Mr. Hribar said: “We are committed to ensuring our customers across the country will be able to avail of high speed broadband”.
