GOREY TOWN Council is to get a new Town Clerk and an official announcement is expected in the coming days.
This follows the surprise news that David Minogue, who has held the position for just one year, has been appointed Town Clerk at Enniscorthy Town Council.
Speaking from his office, Mr. Minogue said he was sorry to be leaving Gorey. “I have enjoyed my time here and the members have been very good to me.”
“Gorey is a very positive town. It has been thriving at a time when it is very difficult to thrive,” he stated.
One of the first to congratulate Mr. Minogue was Cllr. Malcolm Byrne.
“I want to thank David for all his hard work and fresh ideas when he came to Gorey a year ago. He has always been approachable and willing to explore any suggestion.”
However, Cllr. Byrne is unhappy about changing officials.
“It is not right that Gorey is to have our sixth Town Clerk in under a decade,” he said, but added, “Any official takes time to get to know their job and the Town Clerk needs to familiarise him or herself with the issues facing Gorey and District.”
However, Mr. Minogue promises that the transition between him and his successor will be a smooth one, just as it was when he took over from Ger Mackey a year ago.
