The Wexford senior hurlers overcame being reduced to 14-men and shipping two rapid-fire goals to get the better of the Dublin Institute of Technology (DIT) by 1-29 to 2-19 after extra-time in Sunday’s Walsh Cup tournament opener at Blackwater.

Wexford appeared to be in serious trouble when, moments after Michael O’Regan had been dismissed on a second yellow-card, the DIT pounced for two goals to lead by 2-14 to 0-16 with nine minutes of normal-time to go. But the brilliance of recent minor star Gary Moore, in his second senior campaign, saw Wexford force extra-time, during which Paul Morris goaled with four minutes remaining to send Liam Dunne’s charges through to a home quarter-final against Offaly next Sunday.
