THE WEXFORD Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (WSPCA) was celebrating a victory yesterday, after successfully dealing with the issue of horses being stranded by flood waters in the Enniscorthy area.
The WSPCA posted on their Facebook page that the efforts of the organisation’s Inspector, Petrina Busher, along with members of Slaney Search & Rescue and Wexford County Council, led to the solution of banning animals off the land during flooding times.
The lands in question, which involve an island behind the train station, will now not allow animals to stay there from October 1- May 1 yearly, and any animals found during this time will be impounded.
The organisation thanked members of Slaney Search & Rescue who, together with Ms. Busher, have worked tirelessly and often in horrendous conditions to rescue animals caught in floods over the past few years. It also expressed thanks to members of the public who have called the office and expressed concern for the animals.
Users of the social networking site couldn’t hide their delight at the news, with one user posting: “fantastic news, those poor animals deserve all the help, well done to all involved, so great to hear of a good outcome”, and another saying: “well done, I’m glad the animals are ok, and delighted to see these bans in to help prevent this happening again.”
