A GROUP of enterprising young secondary school students in New Ross are on course to win a major national award.

The 5th Year students, from the Leaving Certificate Vocational Programme in St. Mary’s Secondary School, were rewarded with a Junior Achievement Award for their work at introducing and promoting Fair Trade within the school and town.

The students organised their Fair Trade events as part of the school’s participation in this year’s Junior Achievement Ireland’s Company Programme.

Since undertaking the programme last November the girls have successfully set up and run their own companies. They will now compete against other schools regionally, nationally and internationally in their bid to win the coveted title of Junior Achievement Company of the Year.

The students have carried out their work under the guidance of their teachers, Eithne Forde and Marie Winters.
