THE STRAINS of traditional music  will break out on the streets of Gorey this weekend as the Cuisle Cheoil takes centre stage with sessions in the pubs and a Saturday night Festival Concert in Gorey Little Theatre Hall competing to be the highlight of a feast of entertainment and enjoyment.

With support from the Arts Council and Wexford County Council, the Cuisle Cheoil committee, lead by the Chairperson, Pat Kavanagh, has this year embarked on an ambitious weekend festival of workshops, sessions and recitals as well as its annual highly acclaimed concert which boats a mouth-watering array of some of the top traditional music performers in the country.

The festival will be officially opened in the Civic Centre Library by Gorey’s Olympic gold medallist, Darragh McDonald, on Friday night at 8 pm and this will be followed by music sessions in various pubs around the town including the Loch gCarman Arms, Katie Daly’s and French’s and a traditional singing session in the Coach House.

It promises to be a great weekend. Cuisle Cheoil was founded by a group of local traditional musicians aiming to bring the top exponents of traditional Irish music to Gorey, and their message now is to come out the weekend and enjoy the ceol agus craic!
