THE COMMUNITY of Taghmon came together on Sunday to pay tribute to one of its most respected and well-known members, who passed away last year.

Over 100 locals got together to unveil a plaque on the fountain in the centre of the village which reads: “in remembrance of Andy Doyle 1932 – 2012.’

The plaque is a fitting tribute to the memory of Mr. Doyle, who passed away last June, as he was an instrumental figure in the fountain being erected, and in maintaining the Square, where it is located.

It was unveiled by his widow Eileen, after months of preparation by the Square committee.

Committee member Michael Stafford made a speech on the day, and David Doyle spoke on behalf of Mr. Doyle’s family, thanking everybody and saying a few kind words about his late father.

Father Sean O’Gorman then said a prayer and carried out a blessing on the mark of honour for one of Taghmon’s greatest community men.

As well as being an active member of every facet of life in his beloved village, including being the founding member of the community centre, Mr. Doyle was a ModelCounty legend for Wexford GAA.
