NEW ROSS will open its first museum next month when the local Tidy Towns organisation officially launches its Community Museum project in the Tholsel.
The historic event will take place at 12 noon on Saturday, March 16. It’s being organised in conjunction with the JFK50 programme of events for 2013.
Residents from New Ross and the surrounding areas are being invited to attend the opening and bring along memorabilia they have in their possession, that is in anyway connected with the historic visit of President John F. Kennedy to Ireland in the 1960s, and loan them to the project.
Items such as photographs, flags, souvenirs, newspaper articles or even parts of the original podium are welcome!
All items will be carefully stored and displayed. It’s hoped the museum will be open for the summer and will be staffed by local volunteers.
The memorabilia will be on display at a number of secure venues around town the town including the Town Council Chamber, the Public Library and St Michael’s Theatre.
Once the project is complete all items donated will be returned to their owners.
