Plans for the 19th annual Byrne Perry Summer School have been finalised and this year’s theme is “Men and Masters – The Great Lockout of 1913,” and the event which has won international acclaim, is being promoted nationally ahead of taking place on the weekend of June 28th to the 30th.

Fr. Walter Forde, Chairman, said that this year’s Summer School is the second in the ongoing series on aspects of the Decade of Commemorations and is dedicated to the background, progress and outcomes of the 1913 Dublin Lockout.

The Gordon Wilson Memorial Lecture will be on the topic, “1913 in Irish History”, and will be delivered by historian Niamh Puirséil, and the opening address will be performed by Brendan Howlin, T.D., Minister for Public Expenditure.

A fine list of speakers have been drawn together for the weekend, the best known being John Gibney from the ‘History Ireland’ magazine.

The chief sponsor is Wexford County Council with support from Gorey Town Council, AIB, Gorey, Funges of Gorey and Gorey Credit Union, and it is a ‘Gathering’ event.

This year’s field trip will take place on the Sunday and will be led by Monica Crofton, “Wexford Town tour and the 1912 Lockout,” while the Summer School dinner is at Forde’s Restaurant, Castlebridge.
