THE GARDAI and the Fire Service tended the scene of a suspicious blaze in the Newcastle area of Newbawn last week.

The blaze broke out at around 5.30 a.m. on Tuesday morning. A spokesperson for the Fire Service said 200 bales of straw, weighing one tonne each, were on fire.

Two units from the New Ross service attended the scene and they were assisted by a low-loader.

The Fire Crews remained at the scene until 5 p.m. The location of the blaze was in close proximity to a number of houses and the road was closed off by the Gardai and Wexford Co. Council until the incident was brought under control.
