EVERYONE IS invited to attend a rally car event at Tesco, Wexford on Sunday from 10-6 p.m.

Programs for a rally taking place the following Sunday, April 14 will be on sale for €10 on the day with all proceeds going towards funding for a new CF unit at Waterford Regional Hospital (WRH).

Rally driver Craig Breen will be in attendance on the day with his white Mitsubishi Lancer EVO9 car which features the names of sponsors. There will also be music.

The Cystic Fibrosis Association of Ireland is currently fundraising for the unit, and needs to raise €250,000 through a series of events, if it is to be completed.

The new unit would provide four ensuite rooms providing paediatric isolation accommodation for young CF patients.

A Cystic Fibrosis Association of Ireland spokesperson said: “The current facilities for CF children in the South East region have been provided at WRH but are below acceptable standards leading to a high risk of cross infection for CF patients and hospital superbugs and other airborne pathogens. A key element in the defence against these risks is the provision of isolated ensuite treatment rooms for CF patients which would add to the children’s quality of life and possible greater longevity.”

Mary Murphy from Tullicanna, Ballymitty, whose son Dean (11) is a CF patient of WRH, and who is part of the campaign team said the unit will cost €400,000.

She said it will provide vital care for children like Dean.

€150,000 in funding would be provided by the HSE and the Cystic Fibrosis Association of Ireland.

A dedicated bank account has been set up to enable people to support this important initiative.

The Cystic Fibrosis Association of Ireland guarantees that all funds raised will be restricted to the WRH CF unit project only and all donations will be receipted and acknowledged as per normal account procedures. The account is at AIB Rathgar, Dublin 6. Sort Code 931071, Account number 11835170. Please ensure the name is on the slip.
