A MAN was arrested after Customs officers seized 28,240 cigarettes with a retail value of €13,037 at Rosslare Europort.
Officers from Revenue’s Customs Service seized the ‘Marlboro Gold’ and ‘Marlboro Light’ cigarettes on Monday. They were discovered when officers stopped and searched the van of a Polish national, who had travelled by ferry from Cherbourg, France. The cigarettes and vehicle were seized when the product was found concealed in the van.
Valued at €13,037, they had a potential loss to the Exchequer of €11,566.
The man, in his thirties, was arrested and taken into custody and is currently on remand in Cloverhill Prison.
