HOLLYWOOD ACTOR Tom Cruise created quite a buzz with his recent visit to Dublin promoting his new film Oblivion.

However, one Enniscorthy man stole some of the attention away from the Top Gun star’s red carpet appearance for following him around with a portable heater.

Shane D’Alton, (22) of Duinsane, Templescoby has become an internet sensation as ‘Tom Cruise heater job guy’, after he was pictured keeping the A-Lister warm from the chilly weather.

Websites such as Reddit and Broadsheet, which are viewed across the world, shared different versions of the original photo, including Shane and his heater photoshopped into the star’s new movie poster.

Speaking to Beat 102-103 on Friday morning, Shane explained that he works for event company ‘Verve Marketing’, and had been up since 4 a.m setting up the red carpet for the premiere.

He was then selected at random by Cruise’s bodyguards to perform the unusual task of following him around with the heater for almost two hours.

“He had requested the heater beforehand as he was in Moscow the week before, which was obviously freezing, and for some reason he thought it’d be as cold here,” Shane laughed.

He added that he had minimum contact with Cruise, although he did say hello and thank him for doing the job.

The multi-millionaire actor was visiting Dublin in his first trip to Ireland in 18 years. While there, he was presented with a Certificate of Irish Heritage from Tánaiste and Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade, Eamon Gilmore. He also stopped into the Guinness Warehouse and made a pre-recorded appearance on The Late Late Show.
