Defending champions St. Anne’s are the raging hot favourites to hold onto the Tom Doyle Supplies county senior football championship – that is according to Slaney Bookmakers, who quote the Anne’s at 9/4 for this year’s title.
That leaves joint-second favourites St. Martin’s, Castletown and Kilanerin (all 6/1) in the shade, while the champions of 2011, Horeswood, are on offer at 8/1. Otherwise, the remaining contenders don’t find much favour with the bookmakers, as Sarsfields, Starlights, Adamstown, Shelmaliers and Gusserane are all available at a huge 20/1, with Fethard 33/1, and Duffry Rovers at 66/1.
Slaney Bookmakers also quote prices to qualify for their groups –
Group A – St. Martin’s 1/20; Castletown 1/7; Kilanerin 1/5; Horeswood 1/3; Gusserane and Shelmaliers, both 2/1.
Group B – St. Anne’s 1/25; Sarsfields 1/6; Starlights 1/4; Adamstown 4/6; Fethard 5/4; Duffry Rovers 4/1.
The championship throws-in tonight (Friday) with a double-header at Taghmon, including the start of the senior chase, as Fethard cross paths with Sarsfields.
