THE LONG-AWAITED Enniscorthy bypass is expected to get the green light in June.

It is estimated that around 12 farmers are still awaiting settlement details from the National Roads Authority but it is believed that the announcement of the bypass start date will be within the coming weeks rather than months.

The bypass, which will begin in Oylegate, run through the Vinegar Hill side of Enniscorthy and link back to the Clough roundabout, was one of a number of Wexford projects to receive funding from last year’s €90 million stimulus package.

Speaking to The Echo, Government Chief Whip Paul Kehoe would not be drawn on the exact date but confirmed that the hope was to announce the start date “in the next short period.”

The news will come on the back of the announcement of the New Ross bypass start date and it is expected that both will be built at around the same time.

Minister Kehoe said that the construction would be estimated to take between two and two-and-a-half years and he is hoping that construction on the town’s Flood Relief Scheme would be underway at the same time.

He added that he had asked for an up-to-date report on the Flood Relief Scheme in order to acquire a timeline for the development and to see if there were any further works that could be carried out in advance of building.
