ONE OF New Ross town’s newest sporting organisations held a very successful showcase event last weekend.

On Friday night St. Mary’s Boxing Club held a boxing showcase in the local Youth Centre and the event attracted a very large crowd of spectators.

The club, which was established last year, operates out of a premises in Barrack Lane which was formerly known as ‘New Ross Glass’.

A spokesperson for the club told The Echo that when it opened the club welcomed “an unprecedented number of boys and girls” through its doors.

“They wanted to learn the noble art of boxing,” he said.

That enthusiasm was very much to the fore in the Youth Centre with the crowd thoroughly engaged by the display before them.

The club boasts an eclectic line-up of members from complete beginners to people with vast experience.

It even boasts champion boxers among its ranks.

Despite its relatively short time in existence the club has already been represented in boxing championships at county level and took home a large number of medals.

Also boasting boxers who have excelled at Leinster Championship level the club has a strong pedigree on which to build for the future.

Last Friday’s showcase event highlighted the fact that New Ross boasts some of the most exciting young boxers to emerge from Co. Wexford in many years.

Boxers from all around the county converged on the town for the event.

The organisers were delighted with the turnout. They thanked all of the competitors for participating in the showcase. They also extended words of thanks to everyone who helped stage the event.

“St. Mary’s Boxing club would like to extend our gratitude and appreciation to all boxers and coaches and various members for their valiant effort,” said the spokesperson.
